About Central Australia

Central and Outback Australia is an amazing travel destination and is so much more than a giant red rock!. Close to Alice Springs you have the Western MacDonnell Ranges, full of gorges, waterholes and even sandy beache!, close to Uluru you have Kata Tjuta (Olgas) and Kings Canyon. Further south you have Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre and the Flinders Ranges. On top of this you have unique desert environments, extreme isolation and ofcorse Aboriginal communities and rock art sites offering a window into one ofth oldest traditional cultures in the world.

Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park is a World Heritage listed park and is one of only a handful of World Heritage Listed areas which is listed for both it's Natural and Cultural qualities. It is located very close to the centre of Australia, is surrounded by red sandy deserts and is rich with Aboriginal Culture, it is estimated that Aboriginal People have lived in the area of Ayers Rock for at least 40 000 years.

All Ayers Rock Tours visit Ayers Rock, (Uluru) The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) & Kings Canyon. The 5 Day 4WD Ayers Rock Tour visits all the 3 day destinations in addition to the Western MacDonnell Ranges and Oak Valley Aboriginal Community. The 10 Day 4WD Ayers Rock Tour travels between Adelaide and Alice Springs and visits the 3 day destinations plus the Western MacDonnell Ranges, the Flinders Ranges, Lake Eyre, Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and Dalhousie Springs on the edge of the Simpson Desert.

All 4WD Ayers Rock Tours are camping tours where the group sleeps out under the stars in Australian Swags (bed roll) around the campfire, (tents are carried if you prefer). The campsites are typically bush camps with little or no facilities depending on the site, these camps are chosen for their remote locations and crowd free nights. At some locations it is not permitted to bushcamp so campsites are used, these may be basic campsites in National Parks or at Ayers Rcok, withing the Ayers Rock Resort camping areas.

Ayers Rock Bush Camp

Camping on the Ayers Rock Tours varies depending on the style of tour.

Camping on the Adventure Ayers Rock Tours is very basic and consists of swags around the campfire. Campsites are a mixture of minimal facility campgrounds in National Parks (these mostly consist of a drop toilet only), and bush camps which have no facilities. Most sites are in remote wilderness areas. There are not many showering opportunities on tour however you will be swimming every day.

Camping on the Safari Style Tours is a little more comfortable, with more campsite with facilities used than bush camps. Bush Camping is still a big part of the Ayers Rock experience and in places where campgrounds are not available, then bush camping is used. Swags around the campfire are used as bedding and tents are carried if preferred (please request at the time of booking).

Swags are a bed roll which consist of a mattress enclosed within a canvas bag, you put you sleeping bag inside the swag and put the swag on the ground to sleep, while in the swag your body is covered and your head exposed, these are a great camping product, very comfortable and warm, and there’s' nothing like falling asleep gazing at the stars! Tents are provided for as a backup however swaging is our preferred method.

About Travelwild Australia

Travelwild Australia started operating tours in 1998 under the name Campwild Adventures, our fisrt tours were backpacker 4WD tours to Kangaroo Island, the tours were soon expanded and within the first year we were traveling to Alice Springs and Darwin with a 20 day expedition through central Australia. In 2005 Campwild Adventures was sold and Travelwild now groups together similar backpacker tours around Australia under the Travelwild banner, the responsibility of the daily running of the tours is left to a handful local operators who specialize in their region, local knowledge is very important when running tours if you want to get to the best spots at the best time of year, understand the weather and local fauna and flora, and this is what Travelwild offers.

All tours are small group adventure tours and offer heaps of fun, they all require you to rough it a bit in order to see and experience the best of the destinations offered.

About Travelwild

Travelwild Australia started operating tours in 1998 (then called Campwild), we ran a single 2 day Adventure Tour around Kangaroo Island and had a very simple philosophy, "Run the best tours possible while exploring remote wilderness areas with small groups of active people."

These day Travelwild is a much different company, we now group together the best small group adventure tours around Australia, from Ayers Rock to Kakadu to Kangaroo Island to The Kimberley, all which follow that simple philosophy of small groups and adventure.

Travelwild doesn't offer the cheapest tours, we don't offer luxury tours, we offer adventure tours to people who think sleeping out under the starts is fun, who like swimming in outback waterholes, who want to learn about the traditional cultures of Aboriginal People, who realize that sometimes to get to the best places, to experience the best things, you might need to sit in the back of a 4WD and get covered in dirt and dust, or you may need to hike for several kilometers.

All tours are small group adventure tours and offer heaps of fun, they all require you to rough it a bit in order to see and experience the best of the destinations offered.
